APPEAL OF YOUTH ORGANIZATION
OF POLISH LEAGUE FOR NATURE PROTECTION
OF CORRECTIONS IN POLISH ENERGETICS

The Polish economy absorbs energy in great quantities. We use twice, three times more energy to produce a unit of national income than developed countries.

We lose energy at every stage:

1. Generating it - in Poland the main energy source is coal, mined at great costs, some mines use more energy to produce the coal than it contains.
2. Transmitting it - inadequate equipment and poor construction of transmission lines cause loses of energy which are supplied by work of two plants.
3. Using it - outdated old technologies and facilities result in energy waste in our factories and homes.

The Polish method to solve the energy crisis (that is to increase energy production) leads to a polluted environment. It also results in a problem difficult to overcome - a depletion of resources. So far the attempts to solve the problem are limited to only one remedy - rising energy and fuel prices. And they are not successful.

Increasingly, Poland causes air, water and soil pollution that involves not only our country, but our North Eastern neighbors. As well energy use affects not only economics, it also influences nature and human beings. This isn't considered in an account of production costs. Poland needs to create new energy policies. It is an emergency.

It is impossible to solve Polish depression without the promotion of rational energy consumption, without an application of energy saving technologies and facilities, without recycling and without usage of alternative energy sources.
